April 15, 2022Society for the Scientific Study of ReligionThe SSSR encourages proposals for its 2022 Annual Meeting that examine the role that religion plays in the positions that individuals and groups take on these and other quality of life issues in the USA and globally. We also encourage proposals that examine the degree to which religion influences individual and collective behaviors in response to these issues. We are particularly interested in how race, class, citizenship, and nationality determine the saliency of religion to how individuals think and respond to the pandemic, anti-Black police violence, and other quality of life issues.https://sssreligion.org/annual-meeting/call-for-papers/?fbclid=IwAR2JTU-8d5vMVr4MTXw-H8uCk641-h2uUIbbmKdSlmlfb5euBFgcihn4Bso

30th JuneCambridge Muslim CollegeIntersecting Philosophy of Science with Islamic Thought hosted by Cambridge Muslim College We are looking for novel papers that engage questions posed in philosophy of science from Islamic perspectives. Example inquiries include: Are/can there be any Islamic perspectives on the demarcation problem? How have Muslims conceived the laws of nature? Are there any Islamic responses to the problem of induction? How might Muslims respond to the scientific realism debate? Participants should feel free to localise these inquiries to particular disciplines and/or thinkers/groups. For example: How might Avicenna’s framework demarcate between physics (science) and black magic (pseudoscience)? Are laws of nature “real” in Ash’arite occasionalism? How do prophetic miracles impact the discussion of scientific realism? We are also open to the meta questions. The following are potential research questions: Should philosophy of science intersect with Islamic thought? How might an engagement between philosophy of science and Islamic theology and/or philosophy look like? How might philosophy of science mediate the role between the natural sciences and Islamic philosophy and/or theology? Select participants might be asked to send in full articles which will be published either as an article in a special volume of a journal, or as a book chapter in a collected volume. For consideration of your proposal, please email a 300-word abstract in English to Dr. Shoaib Ahmed Malik with your full name, current association, and rank by the 30th of June 2022. Please send the email with the subject line Abstract for PoSIT. Decisions will be announced a week after the abstract deadline.
